WASHINGTON, DC - The 2006 lacrosse season came to an end for the La Salle Explorers on Friday afternoon in the nation's capital, as the Explorers fell 16-8 to host George Washington. La Salle ends the season with an overall record of 5-12 and an Atlantic 10 record of 1-6, while the Colonials improved to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play. This marked the final collegiate game for the four seniors - Kelly Cochlin, Kristen Davis, Kat Prokop and Nicole Sunderland.

In the finale, Davis led the way for La Salle with three goals on the offensive end, while Prokop led the defensive attack with two ground balls and one caused turnover.

The Colonials jumped out to a 6-0 lead, beginning with a goal by Annie Howley at the 5:35 mark and ending with Colleen Schmidt's back-to-back goals at 12:52 and 13:59. Davis broke GW's scoring at the 15:08 mark with an unassisted goal, but that was short lived, as the Colonials rattled off the next four goals to close out the period with Laura Hostetler's second goal of the game with 0:09 seconds remaining in the first half.

Taking a 10-1 lead into the second period, Hostetler scored again just 45 seconds into the half. La Salle freshman Maura Kenville put an end to the Colonials run with 27:10 remaining in the contest, followed by Prokop's free position goal just over two minutes later at 25:06.

The teams traded goals, either one at-a-time or two at-a- time to close out the game with GW claiming a 16-8 victory.

Chantelle McCormick started out in goal for the Explorers and logged 12:52 in the cage, allowing five goals and posting two saves before Brittany Friedrich took over and completed 47:08 in the cage. The Colonials utilized three goalkeepers, starting off with Caitlin Garman for the majority of game, in 44:12, Garman allowed four goals and as many saves. Teddi Shihaden took over next for 6:03, allowing three goals and just one assist before Emily Fortunato closed out the last 9:45 of play, letting one Explorer goal and no saves.

The Explorers struggled on both offense and defense; being out shot 38-21 and earning just six draw controls to the Colonials 20. George Washington also earned 16 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers to La Salle's 9 and 4 respectively. The Colonials did commit double the fouls at 26-13.
