NORRISTOWN, PA - The La Salle University Baseball team was shutout by the Xavier Musketeers, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Elmwood Park in the rubber match of the three-game Atlantic 10 set.
After winning Thursday, 4-0, the Explorers scored one run in the final two games against Xavier and were actually shutout for the last 17 innings - Rich Prall hit a solo home run in the first inning on Friday.
Xavier (16-37, 6-18 A-10) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Neil Lindgren hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Adam Pasono, who doubled to right field to lead off the game.
That was all the run support Dan Graham would need as he pitched a two-hit complete game shutout to improve to 3-5 for the year. He struck out 10 batters, but issued six free passes and hit a batter.
La Salle (17-31, 9-14 A-10), for the second game in a row, had men on base, but could not plate any runs. They left seven runners on base and failed to get a runner to third.
Drew Gerhart suffered the loss and dropped to 3-5 on the season, while - after an hour and 52 minute rain delay - Gerard Breslin threw six innings of relief and fanned five. With those strikeouts, he now has 172, 10 off the all-time career mark at the school (Jeff La Porta, 1989-92, 182).
La Salle will finish up the regular season with a three-game set with the Owls at Temple's Ambler Field starting Thursday at 1 PM.
