PHILADELPHIA, PA - After leading the La Salle University Baseball to its first Atlantic 10 Conference three-game sweep since March 2003, sophomore second sacker
John Rickards was honored by the league by being named Player of the Week.
Rickards hammered the Temple pitchers over the weekend with a 9-for-12 clip in the three-game sweep with a double, three triples, and two home runs, and drove in five runs and scored six times. He batted .750 for the series with a 1.833 slugging percentage and a .786 on-base percentage.
After starting the series 0-for-2 in his first two at bats, Rickards went 9-for-10 with two walks and a sac bunt in his last 13 trips tot he plate, which includes reaching base in his last nine plate appearances and recording six straight hits - back-to-back triples, a single, a home run, another single, and a double.
He was also honored Monday with the Philadelphia Diamond 5 Player of the Week Award.
