Prall Repeats as All-Conference First Team Selection

PHILADELPHIA, PA - La Salle University junior catcher Rich Prall became the Explorers' first ever repeat member of the Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Conference First Team, while two other Explorer pitchers, junior Dan Waters and freshman Drew Gerhart, were also honored by the conference.

Prall, who became only the fifth La Salle player ever to make the A-10's First Team in 2005, had one of his best seasons in 2006. He set personal bests in hits (67), doubles (18), runs scored (32), RBI (40), total bases (103) and tied his previous high in home runs (6). In three of those categories, Prall entered the school's all-time single season top 10 - doubles (second), hits (eighth), and total bases (eighth).

With one more season left, he can place his name among the best hitters ever at La Salle, as he is already in the top 10 on the career list in doubles (fourth - 39); hits (seventh - 194); and total bases (ninth - 278), and he is closing in on the top 10 in average, at-bats, home runs, and RBI.

Waters, who was named to the A-10's Academic All-Conference Team, cut his 2005 ERA in half (5.83) and had best ERA at school in 20 seasons. His 15 starts tied the school record for a season, his 90 strikeouts was second-best at La Salle, his ERA was fifth-best and innings pitched were sixth, and he led the team in those categories.

He becomes the first Explorer named to the Academic Team as a pitcher and the first La Salle member since 2001. Only three other Explorers have ever been named to the Academic Team, but all three were named as both juniors and seniors - Brian Schaller (1996-97), Kevin Ibach (1999-00), and Jon Palumbo (2000-01), something Waters can also accomplish in 2007.

For the first time this season, the Atlantic 10 has honored an All-Rookie Team and La Salle's Gerhart made the team. Despite struggling early in the season, when his ERA ballooned above 13.00, Gerhart allowed just three earned runs over his last 18.0 innings pitched - all A-10 games - and lowered it to 8.21.

In two of his last three starts, he had strong outings besting his season-highs in innings pitched and strikeouts, helping La Salle to a pair of victories. In the last game of the year, he went 7.1 innings, struck out six, allowed no earned runs as La Salle finished off its first A-10 sweep since March 2003 with a 9-6 win at Temple.

The three selections to postseason teams this year marks only the second time in the school's history that three different players were honored by the A-10 in the school's 11 years in the conference. In 2000, Ibach and Palumbo joined Second Teamer Kevin Wittmeyer.
