Jason Pane Running Backs Coach: This spring has given an opportunity for each of the members of the La Salle backfield to showcase their talents. Each running back brings something differentto the table and each will have a defined role for the 2006 fall season. The backfield for the 2006 La Salle Explorers returns two major components from last years team; Kevin Sullivan and Josh Brumfield. Senior RB Kevin Sullivan is LaSalle's most versatile runner. His size, speed, and quickness allows for him to line up in various positions and gives the Explorers a variety of ways to get him the football. Fifth year senior, Josh Brumfield has distinguished himself as a leader and his hardnosed style makes him and excellent interior rusher. Junior Jarryd Anderson has invested time in the weight room and in film study this spring to potentially earn playing time in 2006.
The Explorers will also count on a collection of younger backs to step into important roles next season. Willie Maldonado's quick feet and explosiveness lead to big plays out on the perimeter this spring. CJ Creighton's size and power make him an ideal back to grind out the clock and convert in short-yardage situations. Creighton has distinguished himself as a back do not want to tackle. When the Explorers use a traditional two-back set, they may look to Matt Bishop to make key blocks as their fullback. John Scipione is an instinctive player that may help La Salle on the defensive side of the ball. In addition, the incoming class of freshman running backs looks very promising and will only add depth to an already talented collection of athletes.
Overall, La Salle's offensive backfield looks to be shaping up nicely. Their ability to run both inside and outside and to get involved in the pass game make this offense versitile and explosive. LaSalle will be placing the football in good hands.
