La Salle vs. Rider this weekend

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Men's soccer team will break in McCarthy Stadium's new Sprinturf field this Sunday when they host Rider University at 2:30 pm.  The Explorers are eager to get back into action this year, having played an exciting but unsatisfying 6-9-4 season last year.

Despite the loss of such talented players as Josh France, Jim Bradley, and Scott Golden, the team's new seniors and strong young players are ready to get on the field and prove themselves with a great season in 2006.  Among these players are senior Jeff Spiker, who had 3 goals and 2 saves last year, and junior Jeremy Ortiz.  Ortiz scored 6 goals in 10 competitions last year and, in addition to be being voted onto the Soccer Seven All-star team, was also named to the A-10 preseason All-Conference this year.

Along for the ride this season is La Salle alum Stash Graham.  Graham holds several goalkeeping records for the school which he earned during his 2001-2004 career, and is now an assistant coach for the explorers under head coach Pat Farrell.

With nine newcomers also joining the already young team, La Salle' roster is packed with raw talent and is ready to put that into action this weekend with their home opener.
