Dominick and McKeon Lead Explorers in Colgate Classic Finale

HAMILTON, NY - In the finale of the 2006 Colgate Classic volleyball invitational, the Explorers volleyball team took on the host Colgate and fell in a struggle 3-1 by scores of 27-30, 31-29, 29-31, 20-30.  La Salle now stands at 1-2 for the season, while Colgate improves to 2-1.

The underclassmen led the way for the Explorers with sophomore Christa Dominick topping all La Salle players with 13 kills, while sophomore Amy McKeon chipped in 11 in the loss.  Setter Caitlin Conner tallied 38 assists out of La Salle's 51 kills in the match.

Defensively, the Explorers  displayed another strong performance by libero Carolyn Judge, who tallied a match-high 36 digs.  Conner helped out with 13, Erin Sullivan added 12 and Tammi Jones earned 11 digs to pace the Explorers. 

 

Dominick played a balanced offensive and defensive match, after leading the team in kills on offense, Dominick  assisted on a match-best seven assisted blocks enroute to scoring 16.5 points for the Explorers in the match.

 

Colgate was led by Erin Kanetzke with 20 kills and Katrina Zawojski with.  The Red Raiders also posted 15 kills from Kelsea Loveless.  Setter Megan Fanta finished the match with 55 assists.

 

The Red Raiders libero, Jackie Adlam tried to top Judge in digs, but fell short, finishing with 31. 

 

The Explorers will return to action next weekend when they host the La Salle Invitational on Friday, September 1st and Saturday, September 2nd.  Joining La Salle at the tournament will be Bucknell, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Rider and UNC Wilmington.  Action kicks off on Friday at 12:00 p.m. and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
