Collegeville, PA - The La Salle University Explorers (0-3) hit the road for the first time as they traveled to Ursinus College (3-0) on week three of the 2006 season and dropped a 6-2 decision.
In a defensively dominated first half the lone score came on Nick DePinto's (Cream Ridge, NJ/New Egypt) sack of Bear quarterback Ted Wallingford in the end zone to put the Explorers up 2-0. The safety was set up by sophomore punter Anthony Perlozzo's (Ocean City, MD/Decatur) 58-yard punt that was downed by Brian McKenna (Valley Forge Military Academy) on the Ursinus three yard line. Perlozzo averaged 37.9 yards on eight punts and pinned the opponents inside the 20 yard line four times including two that were downed inside the five yard line.
The Explorers were victimized by penalties all afternoon as they compiled 118 yards of penalties on 10 flags including back to back pass interference calls which set up the only touchdown of the afternoon when David Ashworth hit the end zone from two yards out.
The Explorers once again dominated most offense categories but were held on a pivotal fourth down conversion to essentially end the game. The Explorers were driving with under five minutes to play and were faced with a fourth and three at the Ursinus 32 yard line but quarterback Chris Hanson (Southampton, PA/Archbishop Wood) was stopped on a keeper to turn the ball over on downs. Hanson led the Explorers with 92 gross rushing yards and 138 pasing yards in his first collegiate start.
The Explorers would get one more possession and drive the Bears' 49-yard line but Hanson's bomb attempt was intercepted by DeVohn Butler to end the drive.
The Explorers leave the region for the first time this season when they travel to Loretto, PA next Saturday for a 1:00 PM kick-off at DeGol Field against the St. Francis Red Flash.
