Posted by: Sue SennerLEWISBURG, PA - On day two of the Bucknell Volleyball Invitational the Explorers' volleyball team went the distance and beyond with the Wagner Seahawks at Davis Gym. After splitting the first two games, the two teams traded games three and four to force a game five situation. In game five, the standard 15 points were not enough to settle the match, and in the end, Wagner claimed the victory with a 17-15 decision. The Seahawks improve to 2-6, while La Salle drops to 4-8.
La Salle freshman Rachel Stemper led all players in the match with 18 kills. Teammate Erin Sullivan was right behind Stemper, landing 17 kills. Sullivan also turned-in La Salle's best hitting percentage at .375, committing just two errors in 40 attempts. Another freshman, Danielle DiMarco came off the bench for the second straight match to drop 10 kills onthe Seahawks. Assisting on La Salle's kills, Caitlin Conner racked up 40 assists in the five game set.
On defense, libero Carolyn Judge topped the 20 dig mark again, while Sullivan and Conner contributed 11 each to go with Stephanie Owen's 10 digs.
At the net, Amy McKeon assisted on six blocks to lead the team; Sullivan and Owen each earned a solo and assisted block, and Stemper recorded La Salle's only other solo block and assisted on a pair of blocks.
Wagner was led by Trish Morris who tallied 15 kills and Sarah Garrette and Kelly Kasper each tallied 14 in the win. The Seahawks split the setting duties between Gabi Hilk with 30 assists and Lydia Emnott with 23 assists.
The Seahawks got a team-high 22 digs from Sirena Laburn and 15 from Brandy Barnett.
The Explorers will close out competition at the Bucknell Invitational at 4:00 p.m., when they take on host Bucknell.
