Comstock Goals Clips Mountainhawks in OT

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle Explorer field hockey team tallied its first win on their new Sprinturf at Hank DeVincent field in a 1-0 overtime win over the visiting Lehigh Mountainhawks. The Explorers improve to 3-7, while Lehigh falls to 2-4.

In the first half, neither team could get their offense going, as the Explorers never attempted a shot. Lehigh's Christy Smith was the only player to attempt a shot, with one shot one and one wide shot. Lehigh drew one corner in the half, while La Salle did not get any.

In the second half, the shift turned in La Salle 's favor. The Explorers continued the pace of the half and attempted nine shots, with five on goal. The Mountainhawks took control in the last three and a half minutes, but could only get two shots off and neither made it close to the cage.

The Explorers earned eight penalty corners in the half, including one as time expired but the team could not convert a shot to a goal.

Senior midfield Amy Comstock slipped a shot past Lehigh goalkeeper Stephanie Palmieri 3:06 into the overtime period to lift the Explorers to a 1-0 victory over the Mountainhawks.

The Explorers will be in action next on Saturday, September 30, 2006 when they visit the Villanova Wildcats at 1:00 p.m.
