KINGSTON, RI - The La Salle University Women's Soccer team kicked off the Atlantic 10 Conference slate at the University of Rhode Island, and the Rams' lone goal, scored in the 20th minute, was the difference as the Explorers lost their conference opener for the third straight season.
Rhode Island (5-6-0, 1-0-0 A-10) scored just 19:41 into the game when Deb Nelson found Lauren Forgione for her fourth goal of the season. Forgione, on the left side of the box, shot high to the upper right corner for the tally, which held up for the game-winner.
The Rams Amanda Thomas registered the win in net without having to make a save. The Explorers did almost tie the game in the 65th minute when Kim Lisun's shot hit off the closebar, but that was their closest chance at an equalizer.
Rhode Island outshot La Salle, 13-3, and 6-0 for shots on goal. Amy Grant recorded four saves in the game, but was tagged with the loss.
La Salle (3-7-0, 0-1-0 A-10) will stay in the northeast to face Massachusetts, Sunday at 1 PM.
