Posted by: Sue SennerPHILADELPHIA, PA - Closing out a weekend of competition at Hofstra, the La Salle Explorer field hockey team struggled against the Pride, falling 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Explorers now own a 1-3 record, while Hofstra improved to 3-1 in front of a crowd of 155.
The Explorers managed just four shots in the games, with three shots coming by way of senior Laura Farley. Of Farley's three shots, two were on goal. Fellow senior Jillian Moser attempted La Salle's only other shot of the afternoon.
Hofstra got on the scoreboard just 4:55 into the contest, when Pemba Ramdoo scored an unassisted goal on a penalty corner. The teams remained scoreless for the for rest of the first half, but after the break, Hofstra's Kristin Thompson tallied a goal with the help of Kara McEneaney at the 32:25 mark of the game to give the Pride a 2-0 lead, which resulted in the final score.
In goal, Ellen Axelsen logged another 70 minutes of play and recorded eight saves while facing a total of 20 shots (10 on goal). The Pride saw Jessica Cowperthwait play 70 minutes and earn two saves.
Penalty corners were close, with the Explorers falling just short on a 7-5 Hofstra advantage.
The Explorers will return home to compete in their first game on the new Sprinturf at Hank DeVincent Field on Thursday, September 7th when they take on Lock Haven at 4:00 p.m.
