Posted by: Marc MullenDeLand, Fla. - Two second-half goals by Stetson lifted the Hatters to a 2-0 victory over the La Salle Women's Soccer team Sunday afternoon at the Stetson Soccer Field.
Jessica Spencer scored the first goal for Stetson, as she took a ball from Noelle Tyre after a shot by Heather Berg. Berg's ball went over La Salle goalie Lauren Malizia and into the box, where Tyre passed it over to Spencer, who tapped it in at the 62:31 mark.
The Hatters (1-3) scored an insurance goal at the 81:59 mark, thanks again to Spencer. She registered an assist on Emily Ware's first career goal, which increased their lead to 2-0.
Stetson's goalie April Eilering recorded her first shutout of the season and the 21st of her career. Eilering, who is the career leader in shutouts at Stetson, recorded four saves in the game, while Malizia stopped five shots for the Explorers.
La Salle (1-3) return to action this weekend with a trip to Virginia. They take on William & Mary at 4 PM Friday in the first match of the VCU Tournament, then face the hosts on Sunday at 3 PM.
