Posted by: Sue SennerVILLANOVA, PA - The La Salle field hockey team traveled to Main Line to take on the Villanova Wildcats at Villanova Stadium Saturday afternoon. The #16 ranked Wildcats were held to just one goal in an up-and-down battle. The Wildcats took the victory 1-0 and improved to 10-3 for the season, while the Explorers slipped to 3-8.
After a scoreless first half of competition, in which the Explorers managed one shot and Villanova wasn't much better with just two shots, the Wildcats' Megan Foster knocked in the game-winning goal 2:05 into the second half.
Both teams struggled to take shots, as the Explorers attempted two shots for the game which included one shot on goal by Colleen Lechner. The Wildcats attempted a total of 10 shots, but only five on goal, as Foster attempted the majority of shots, with a total of seven, including three on goal.
Goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen remained strong in the cage, posting four saves in the contest. Villanova goalkeeper Alex Whalen logged 70 minutes and earned one save.
La Salle drew just one penalty corner in the game, to Villanova's seven.
The Explorers will return to action on the road on Tuesday, when they take on the Lafayette Leopards at 7:00 p.m.
