Posted by: Sue SennerPHILADELPHIA, PA - In their fifth contest of the season, the La Salle Explorer field hockey team hosted the Lady Eagles of Lock Haven University. Originally scheduled on Hank DeVincent Field on the Explorers' campus, the game was moved to Temple's Geasey field, where La Salle left with a 6-0 defeat. The Explorers stand at 1-4 overall, while the Lady Eagles got their first win and are now 1-3.
The Explorers fell behind 3-0 in the first 15 minutes of play, as the Lady Eagles scored at the 3:41 mark with Blair Wynne scoring what would be the game-winner. Sarah Huber followed with an assist by Mandy Daschbach at 8:44, while Suzanne Hobart capped off the scoring run with Wynne's assistance at 14:55.
After playing 20 scoreless minutes, the teams broke for halftime. In the second half, the scoreless trend returned, at least for 14+ minutes. With 20:42 left to play, Lock Haven's Samantha Stoyer scored on a penalty corner with the help of Wynne and Renee Kemmerer. A little more than six minutes later, Huber netted her second goal of the game with the help of Kemmerer to give the Lady Eagles a 5-0 advantage. At the 61:17 mark of the contest, Stoyer scored again to end the game at 6-0.
La Salle goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen logged 58:47 in the cage and tallied 10 saves. Christa Buccilli relieved Axelsen for the last 11:13 and allowed one goal while recording two saves. Lock Haven goalkeeper Ali Harris competed the entire 70 minutes and earned one save.
The Explorers will return to action on Saturday, September 9, 2006 when they take on Robert Morris. This contest will also be moved to Temple's field at 1:00 p.m.
