Explorers Fall to Youngstown State

ANNAPOLIS, MD- The La Salle Explorer volleyball team opened action at the Chesapeake Challenge, a two-day tournament taking place at Navy and Loyola.  In their first match, the Explorers took on Youngstown State and fell 3-0 by scores of 30-25, 30-15, 30-22.

Sophomore Amy McKeon led the Explorers with nine kills and hit .300 for the match, committing just three errors on 20 attempts.  McKeon also posted La Salle's only solo block of the match.  Christa Dominick also made a strong showing with eight kills and a .467 hitting percentage.  Dominick attempted 15 hits and made just one error in the three-game set.  Caitlin Conner landed two kills and assisted on 25 kills, making her mark on all but three of La Salle's 30 kills in the match.

On defense, the NCAA dig leader, Carolyn Judge tallied 15 digs to lead the Explorers.  Erin Sullivan added eight digs in the Explorers effort.

Youngstown State got a dozen kills apiece from Ebony Barbosa adn Ruth Boscaljon.  Setter Karla Everhart assisted on 38 of Youngstown State's 46 kills.

On defense, Janelle McDonald led all players with 19 digs and Barbosa earned a double-double with 10 digs to go along with the 12 kills.

The Explorers close out the day with a match against host Navy at 6:00 p.m.
