East Orange, NJ - The La Salle men's swimming and diving team traveled to East Orange, New Jersey to take on the host Seton Hall Pirates on Tuesday afternoon. The Pirates claimed a 162-138 victory over the Explorers. La Salle drops to 2-3 for the season.
Diver Karo Isajan swept the diving events to lead the Explorers. Isajan posted a 392.10 point performance in the 3-meter event and a score of 340.42 in the 1-meter event to earn the first place finishes.
Senior Sean Connors-McBride split events, earning a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.22 and coming in second in the 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 9:53.63.
Owen Black left his mark on the scoring with a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:46.43. In he 50-yard freestyle, Black turned in La Salle's best performance with a time of 22.49, good for second place, followed by teammates John Welsh in third (22.76) and Chris Cefalo in fourth (22.76). Black finished in second place (48.81) in the 100-yard freestyle followed again by Welsh in thrid with a time of 49.68.
Mike Ellerson claimed the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:57.67, while teammate Grant Chin finished a very close second with a time of 1:57.71. Ellerson also posted a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.76, followed by Stuart Barr in third place with a time of 55.04 and Welsh in fourth with a time of 56.58.
John Nemeth added second place points in he 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.11.
The Explorers will return to action on Saturday, January 20th when they travel to the Bronx, New York to take on Atlantic 10 opponent Fordham at 1:00 p.m.
