East Orange, NJ - The La Salle women's swimming and diving team traveled to East Orange, New Jersey to take on the Seton Hall Pirates Tuesday afternoon. In the end, the Pirates calimed a 164-134 victory over the Explorers. La Salle drops to 2-5 for the season.
Sophomore Carleen Caldwell paced the Explorers with two first place finishes and a second place finish. In the 50-yard freestyle event, Caldwell sprinted to the finish line in a time of 24.81 to earn the gold. Caldwell turned in a time of 54.21 to earn the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard freestyle event, Caldwell placed second with a time of 1:58.20 behind teammate Shannon Duval who finished the afternoon with three first place finishes.
In addition to her gold medal performance in the 200-yard freestyle even, Duval claimed victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.70 and in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.17.
Mallory Kessler played runner-up to Duval in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.64. Kessler also earned a second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.92.
Newcomer Dana Reis tallied a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:09.62 and finished in third place behind Kessler (2:15.51) in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:16.04. Sister Megan Reis finished in fourth place with a time of 2:18.67.
Diver Margaret Stringer beat out three Pirates to take fist place in the 1-meter event with a score of 249.30 and finished second in the 3-meter event with a score of 252.97.
The Explorers will return to action this Saturday, when they travel to the Bronx, New York to take on Atlantic 10 opponent Fordham at 1:00 p.m.
