Gifford and Duval Get Gold in Loss at Fordham

BRONX, NY - The La Salle women's swimming and diving team traveled to the Bronx, New York to take on the Fordham Rams Saturday afternoon. The final result yielded a 152-83 loss to the Rams as the Explorers slip to 2-6 in head-to-head meets this season.

Freshman Shannon Duval led the way for the Explorers, capturing a first place win in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 5:07.30. Duval also earned a second place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.34.

Felow freshman Dana Reis earned a second place finish as well. Reis swam a 10:34.44 in the 1000-yard freestyle event to earn the silver.

Sophomore Carleen Caldwell posted two top-three finishes in the meet. Caldwell swam to a secon place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 54.99. In the 200-yard freestyle, Caldwell crossed the finishline in third place with a time of 1:58.63.

Mallory Kessler tallied a second place finish for the Explorers in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 2:12.64.

In the 3-meter diving event, Katie Gifford earned the top honors with a score of 2:50.28 followed in second place by Margaret Stringer with a time of 2:23.28.

The Explorers will return to action for their final regular season road meet next Saturday, January 27th when they visit the Duquesne Dukes at 1:00 p.m.
