Bronx, NY - The La Salle men's swimming and diving team cruised to an easy 142-101 victory over host Fordham on Saturday afternoon. The Explorers improve to 3-3 for the season in head-to-head competition. The Explorers were lifted to victory by the seniors.
Sean Connors-McBride cruised to victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:52.65 and earned a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:44.33. It was Connors-McBride who tooke the top honors in the 200-yard butterfly, as the Explorers swept the top three spots with Matt Harner taking second with a time of 2:01.31 followed by Reed Inglee in third with a time of 2:02.54.
Diver Karo Isajan swept the diving competition, taking the top honors in the 1-meter with a score of 357.80 and a 328.43 in the 3-meter event.
Mike Ellerson continued the seniors' outstanding performances with a first place victory in the 200-yard backstroke. The Explorers swept the 200-back as well, with Stuart Barr finishing in second place (1:58.97) followed by fellow senior Matt Ainsworth in third (1:59.13).
Ainsworth also turned in La Salle's best perfomance in the 200-yard freestyle event with a second place finish in a time of 1:48.37 followed by John Welsh in third place (1:49.17) and Brandon Hargraves in fourth (1:49.59).
Junior Grant Chin posted a gold medal performance in the 200-yard individual medley, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:57.41. Ellerson placed second with a tie of 1:57.98. Chin also added a second place performance in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:13.25.
Freshman Owen Black earned a victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.49, as the Explorers swept yet another category with Chris Cefalo earning second place (22.61) and senior Kein Whalen in third (22.67). Black also took second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.85 followed by Whalen in third with a time of 49.44 and Cefalo in fourth (50.17).
The Explorers will return to action on Saturday, January 27th, when they compete in their final road meet of the regular season at Duquesne at 1:00 p.m.
