PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle University Cross Country men's and women's teams have taken the #7 position in this week's Mid-Atlantic Region United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll after competing at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh on September 28th. The Explorers continue to be the top-ranked team in the A-10 in the Mid-Atlantic region.
The men jumped two spots, as they were given a #9 ranking last week. Junior Korey Edwards (Morris Plains, NJ) is a big reason why as he led all Explorer men at Paul Short with a 13th place overall finish in 24:37 in the 8K race to lead La Salle to a 5th-place team finish. Villanova (2), Penn (5), and Saint Joseph's (15) were the other Philadelphia universities ranked in the USTFCCCA poll. Only Duquesne (8) joined La Salle in representing the A-10 in the regional rankings.
The women stayed ahead of the competition thanks to Rachel Papin (Philadelphia, PA) who ran to a 49th place overall finish at Paul Short in 21:48 to lead the Explorers to a 13th-place team finish out of 47 teams. The team also managed to stay ahead of Duquesne (8) in the rankings, and shared the poll with cross-town rivals Villanova (6) and Saint Joseph's (13).
La Salle will take a week off before traveling to State College, PA to take part in the Penn State Open on Friday, October 12th.
