Dan Oliver: Athlete of the Week

Oct. 15, 2007

The Explorers secondary has relied heavily on freshman Dan Oliver. After graduating from nearby Cheltenham High School in June, Oliver has solidified a starting role in La Salle's defensive backfield. Oliver has been one bright spots on defense for the Explorers and is a prospect that Coach Miller is excited to watch develop. A starter from day one at corner back, Oliver has made his presence felt in each of La Salle's first six games. Coming into the game against Marist, Oliver had compiled 19.5 tackles, 2 pass break-ups, 2 fumble recoveries, and an interception.

In Saturday's loss at Marist, Oliver lit up the box score with his second interception of the season, which set up La Salle after a 21 yard return. The interception would eventually lead to a fourth quarter field goal by Anthony Perlozzo. Earlier in the game, Oliver forced his first fumble of the season that eventually led to the lone Explorer touchdown. Oliver finished the game with five total tackles and two forced turnovers.

He is currently fourth on the team with 31 tackles and leads the team with four takeaways.
