The La Salle University men's tennis team trounced Wagner University on Saturday in their final home match of the season. The win improved the Explorers record to 8-3 on the season. The Explorers were in control from the get-go, using a plethora of players in the win.
The action started in doubles with the Explorers winning all three points. At number one doubles, the Explorers duo of George Gennaoui and Jon Maula rolled to an 8-3 win, easily outplaying the competition. The number two doubles duo of Ryan Knarr and Andy Petrusky won, 8-6, in a match that was not as close as the score showed. The Explorer duo was up 4-1 until Wagner made a charge to bring it within 6-5. Knarr and Petrusky then took the final two games for the victory. At number three, it was `Chris Combo' of Chris Harvey and Chris Stonis getting into the action with an 8-3 win, giving the Explorers a sweep in doubles
In singles, the Explorers weren't challenged one bit, as they took all six matches with ease. At number one, Gennaoui cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Eric Glick won 6-3, 6-2 in the second position. At numbers three and four, Petrusky and Knarr added to the rout, both winning 6-1, 6-0 in just over forty five minutes. At number five, Chris Butera absolutely destroyed his opponent, taking a `golden set' into the fourth game in his second set. Butera went on to win, 6-0, 6-0, throwing the double bagel on the scoreboard. At number six, big man Justin Feiner played well, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-0 to preserve the shutout for the Explorers.
"Today was a good day to get some of the other guys involved that aren't everyday starters for us out there," said head coach Ed Colfer. "I thought the Chris's played well together at #3 doubles and Justin came in very nicely for us at #6 in singles."
