2007-08 A-10 Preseason Release (pdf)
PHILADELPHIA - According to a poll conducted by the Atlantic 10 head coaches and select media and released by the A-10 Conference at its annual media day, La Salle University Women's Basketball player Carlene Hightower has been named to both the preseason First Team and All-Defensive Team.
The senior, who received both honors from the conference following the 2006-07 season, will lead the Explorers in the upcoming season, who will be looking to improve on the 10th-place pick they got as a team in the poll. Last year, the Explorers were picked ninth, then went on to finish in a three-way tie for sixth place.
Hightower had one of the best seasons ever played as an Explorer, scoring 525 points, grabbing 213 rebounds, and registering 72 steals and 74 assists. Only three other La Salle women's players have ever scored more than 500 points and have more than 200 rebounds in a season in the school's 35-year history.
She was among the nation leaders in points per game (49th) and steals per game (68th). She led the conference in steals with 2.4 per game, was second in scoring (17.5 pg), fifth in defensive rebounding (5.6 pg), and 10th in rebounding (7.1) and free throw percentage (79.7%).
