Hextall Named A-10 Player of the Week

Oct. 29, 2007

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University Women's Soccer senior Kristin Hextall was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for her efforts over the weekend for the Explorers, it was announced Monday by the Conference. She helped La Salle to a 1-1 week, and accounted for either the goal or assist on all four tallied by the Explorers.

Hextall put La Salle up 1-0 on Friday with a goal at 8:55 of the first half, but Dayton was able to respond with a pair of goals to take the match, 2-1.

On Sunday - Senior Day for the Explorers - Hextall had assists on the first two goals against Xavier, then scored her final goal at McCarthy Stadium on a 30-yard strike in the 65th minute for an insurance goal in La Salle's 3-1 victory.

The numbers for Hextall this season and for her career put her among the school's all-time greats and her 2007 numbers have not been seen in 20 years at the school.

She is second all-time in goals (13), points (32) and shots (75) for a single season. Only Lisa McDermott's 1987 season - when she scored 17 goals on 100 shots and had 42 points - is better than Hextall's 2007 season and she still has two more games left.

In her four-year career, she currently stands second all-time in goals (31), points (79), and games played (76), first in shots (223), fifth in assists (17), and 11th in games started (69).

Before the weekend, in which Hextall had two goals and two assists, she ranked 33rd in the country in points per game (1.63) and 29th in the nation in goals per game (0.688). Those numbers increased to 1.78 and .722 after the output, and is now ranked 18th in the country in both categories.

In the A-10 Conference, Hextall is first in points, second in goals, game-winners and shots. Dayton's Mandi Back is second in points (30) and leads in the other categories - 14 goals, five game-winners, 91 shots - but the Flyers ended their season on Sunday.

The only La Salle player to ever lead the league in either category at the end of the season was Amy Schneider in 2001, when she finished in a tie with Fordham's Kirstin Gellatly with 12 goals and 31 points. After that season, Schneider became the only Explorer honored as the A-10's Offensive Player of the Year.

La Salle (10-8-0, 4-5-0) will end its regular season this weekend with games at St. Bonaventure, Friday, and at Duquesne, Sunday, both games starting at 12 PM.
