Baseball Program Holds Annual Golf Outing

Oct. 31, 2007

The La Salle Baseball program held its annual Golf Outing on Monday, October 22 at Westover Golf Club. More than 130 alumni, parents and friends of the program came out to show their support and raise funds for - among other things - the team's spring trip to North Carolina and California.

Tom Bonk '83, who served as the host for the dinner and golf awards, had the opportunity to introduce new Head Coach and former teammate Mike Lake. Lake takes over as Head Coach after serving as an assistant on the staff for four seasons.

The Class of 1969's Joe Gaffney and Ed Roberts, along with two friends were the winners of the event after shooting a staggering 17-under par.

To name just a few of the 60 alumni who attended the event were: Tom Filer '78, John Rankin '79, Joe Stampone '76, Pat Wanninger '87, Rich DeVincent '91, Hank DeVincent '55, Brian Mills '98, Tom Anderson '69 and Larry Conti '67.

The 2008 baseball team will open its season with a trip to Elon, North Carolina to take on the Phoenix for four games. Then, after their home opener Feb. 27 versus West Chester, the Explorers will travel to California. They will face Cal State - Northridge in a four-game series, and will play a game against Cal State - Riverside.

The 2008 Baseball Golf Outing will once again be held at Westover Golf Club in East Norriton next fall. Check www.GoExplorers.com for more information on the date as it becomes available.
