Explorers Overwhelmed in 51-8 Loss to Duquesne

Nov. 10, 2007

Final Stats

PITTSBURGH, PA- In a penalty-riddled game, the Duquesne Dukes (6-3, 2-1) tallied a 51-8 victory over the La Salle Explorers (0-9, 0-3) Saturday afternoon at Rooney Field.  There were 20 total penalties for 190 yards between the two teams.  The Explorer offense was held to just one first down through three quarters, until Joe Procopio's 11 yard scramble just before the end of the 3rd Quarter..

The Explorer offense was held to negative 17 yards of total offense, until they converted a first down when senior Kevin Crockett (Sicklerville, NJ) caught a Joe Procopio (Calvert, MD) pass just minutes into the fourth quarter.

The Dukes wasted no time as they jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter.  They held a 31-0 lead at halftime.  The Dukes were highlighted by Alex Roberson, who had a 58 yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.

La Salle found a bright spot in freshman defensive back Kevin Ciemniecki (Haddonfield, NJ) who returned a blocked extra point 106 yards for a two-point conversion in the third quarter.  Junior Casey Walsh (Ocean City, MD) deflected the kick which Ciemniecki ran back.

Later in the fourth quarter freshman quarterback Steve Panasuk (Toms River, NJ) engineered the only touchdown drive for the Explorers, converting on 4th and 7 to Crockett to get the Blue and Gold on the board.  The touchdown was Crockett's first of his career.

Of the 20 flags on the day, the Explorers were whistled 10 times for 90 yards including an illegal block which negated freshman Deric Dudinski's (Sterling, VA) 82 yard kick- off return on the Explorer's first kick-return of the day.

The Explorers will wrap up the 2007 season on Saturday, November 17th as they take on Saint Francis University (PA) at 1 PM at McCarthy Stadium.  Live video of the game can be seen on goexplorers.com All-Access.
