Verzi Named CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District First Team

Nov. 1, 2007

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University's Michelle Verzi has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 First Team, it was announced Thursday.

Verzi, a senior defender on the Women's Soccer team, will now move on to the national ballot and have a chance to be voted an Academic All-American.

On the field, Verzi has five assists in 2007, which is tied for third on the team and has started in 15 games and played in all 18 this season. In her career, Verzi has one goal and seven assists in her three seasons at La Salle making 46 starts in 54 games.

On the academic side, Verzi was named to the 2006 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, and has been on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of the four semesters since transferring into La Salle.

In order to be eligible for the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and be at least a sophomore in school.

The national ballot will consist of the first team honorees from each of eight districts around the country. The Women's Soccer Academic All-America team will be announced later in November.

Below is the first team members from District 2 that joined Verzi on the team. Again, Verzi, along with these other 10 players, will be in the running for Academic All-American with only those University Division First Team honorees from the seven other districts.
