McMahon, Ortiz and Davis Earn Philly Soccer 7 Postseason Awards

Nov. 27, 2007

Philadelphia, PA - La Salle University men's soccer student-athletes Walter McMahon (Norristown, PA), Jeremy Ortiz (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and Jim Davis (Pittsgrove, PA) were all honored at the Philadelphia Soccer Seven banquet earlier this week.

McMahon garnered the `John McAdams Academic Player of the Year' award, for his performance in the classroom as well as on the field. The senior accounting and finance major was also named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference 1st Team, along with the 2007 ESPN The Magazine's Academic Men's Soccer District Two 1st-Team. McMahon saw action in all 18 games for the Explorers, and has played in over 60 career games for the blue and gold. The senior had one assist this season as a back, and two in his career.

Senior Ortiz took a spot on the Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star Team for the second consecutive year. This season he was also named to the A-10 `Honorable Mention' Team, along with the A-10 Preseason `All-Conference' Team. In his final season, the team co-captain notched a score in a 2-0 shutout over Richmond, the game-winner in a 1-0 A-10 victory over St. Bonaventure, and the game-winning goal against Saint Joseph's University in a 4-1 win for the Explorers.

Junior Davis was also named to the Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star Team for the second year in a row. Earlier in the season he was named to the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Honor Roll for the week of 9/16. This year he saw action in 16 games, and had two goals and one assist.

Also of note was the Philadelphia Soccer Seven `William `Bill' Wilkinson Freshman of the Year' award. The newly renamed award is in honor of former La Salle men's soccer assistant coach Bill Wilkinson, who coached for 17 years for the Explorers. Wilkinson was an All-American at Drexel University, and also coached at Philadelphia University and Saint Joseph's University. His son, Bob Wilkinson, currently is an assistant coach at La Salle under Head Coach Pat Farrell.
