La Salle Softball Snags Recruit for 2008-09 Season

Dec. 10, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA - La Salle University Softball Head Coach Joe DiPietro has announced the signing of high school senior catcher Shannon Skomorucha (Middletown, DE) to the Explorer's lineup for the 2008-09 season.

"Shannon knows how to handle a pitching staff and will provide us with a spark offensively," said DiPietro.

Skomorucha currently attends Middletown High School in Middletown, DE. As a sophomore she was named First Team All-State at Saint Elizabeth's High School before transferring her junior year to Middletown, where she has also earned First Team All-State honors.

The high school senior is a member of the Philadelphia Spirit 18U Gold travel team, and has three years of experience playing at the Gold level (the highest level of travel softball). The experience from playing Gold softball in high school should make Skomorucha's transition that much easier at the collegiate level. The Explorer's current starting catcher Michelle Sullivan (Gibbstown, NJ) will be graduating in May, and as a result Skomorucha will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact in 2008-09.

"Shannon is the kind of quality player we have tried to recruit to La Salle since I've been here. She is going to be a wonderful asset not only to our program but also to the La Salle community," said DiPietro.

The Explorers will start there season at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida- March 3rd-5th before heading to Tucson, Arizona to face defending national champion the University of Arizona Wildcats in the Wildcat Invitational March 7th-8th. To see a complete schedule, click here.
