Men's Soccer Announces End-of-the-Year Awards

Dec. 11, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA- Senior Walter McMahon (Norristown, PA) has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer 'Academic All-Star Team', announced at the men's soccer banquet held on Sunday morning.

The senior defender was one of only 12 student-athletes to receive this award in the Philadelphia area.  McMahon was already named to the A-10 Academic All-Conferece Team, as well as the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team this season.  He is a big reason why the 2007 Explorer squad was awarded the National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award for a 3.16 cumulative GPA during the 2006-07 academic year.  The blue and gold were one of only 73 teams in the country that both the men's and women's teams were recognized.

Junior Jim Davis (Pittsgrove, NJ) was named 'Player of the Year' after scoring two goals and one assist, including a goal against Penn to send the match into overtime.  Davis was named to the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Honor Roll once during the season.

Also at the banquet freshman standout Ryan Richter (Southampton, PA) was  named 'Rookie of the Year' after being named to the A-10 'All-Rookie' Team for his five goal, two assist performance in his first season at La Salle.

Both McMahon and junior goalie Andrew Bernhard (Lancaster, PA) were awarded the 'Bill Wilkinson Academic-Athletic Award,' given to one or more men's soccer student-ahtletes who exhibit excellent performance on and off the field.
