Philadelphia Big 5 Release

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Big 5 announced La Salle University Women's Basketball player Ashley Gale as its Player of the Week for her effort in the Explorers lone game of the week.

Shorthanded - as the Explorers only dressed eight players - Gale came off the bench to score a game-high 27 points and add seven rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in their 65-64 loss to Quinnipiac on Saturday.

The 27 points were the most by a La Salle freshman since Suzi McCaffrey netted 28 in an 80-79 win over Towson, Dec. 1, 1982. It is also the most points by a bench player since Feb. 17, 2002 when Kat Foley scored 31 in a 77-76 overtime win versus Dayton.

La Salle (3-5) is off this week, but will return to action with a trip to Boston College (Dec. 16) and then the Explorers will take part in the Central Florida Classic on Dec. 19 (vs. UNC-Greensboro) and Dec. 20 (vs. Appalachian State).
