Final Stats
BUFFALO, NY - The men's and women's swimming and diving team closed out the third day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships held at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center.
The Explorers were strong in the 100-yard breaststroke on both the men's and women's side, with Shannon Duval claiming a fourth place finish for the women in a time of 1:04.78. In the morning prelims, Duval set another school record with a time of 1:04.43. For the men, John Nemeth crossed the finish line in fifth place, swimming a 58:00 flat and Kevin Whelan added points after placing 10th with a time of 58.36.
The men turned in a solid performance in the 200-yard freestyle with Sean Connors-McBride grabbing the bronze with a time of 1:41.63 followed by John Welsh in fourth with a time of 1:41.79. For the women, Carleen Caldwell turned in La Salle's best finish in 11th place with a time of 1:56.13 followed by Jamie Polek with a tie for 12th place with a time of 1:56.25.
Grant Chin claimed a fifth place (4:06.67) finish in the 400-yard individual medley to put points on the board for La Salle, while Mallory Kessler added points on the women's side with a ninth place finish with a time of 4:36.47. In the 100-yard butterfly the Explorers earned points from two competitors, with Matt Harner taking 12th place (51.87) and Reed Inglee finishing in 15th with a time of 53.04. On the women's side, Ashley Young took eighth place with a time of 59.81.
In another 100-yard event, Kellene McCall posted a 14th place finish in the backstroke with a time of 1:01.52. For the men, Mike Ellerson finished 12th (52.41) and Stuart Barr finished 14th (53.23).
In the final event of the evening, the women's 400-yard medley relay team swam to a sixth place finish. The team comprised Kessler, Duval, Young and Caldwell posted a time of 3:57.13, which set a school record. For the men, Ellerson, Nemeth, Connors-McBride and Welsh finished in fifth place with a time of 3:27.71.
