Men Place 4th and Women Place 6th in A-10 Championship

BUFFALO, NY - The La Salle men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out competition at the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship held at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center. The women finished in fourth place, while the men earned a fourth place finish.

In his final collegiate performance, diver Karo Isajan set an Atlantic 10 Championship record placing first in the 3-meter diving event with a total score of 617.65. Isajan broke the previous record of 558.80 set by La Salle's Jamie Davidson in 2001.

Senior Sean Connors-McBride closed out his collegiate career scoring first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, as the Explorers earned 25 points in the event with Matt Harner placing 14th (1:57.65) and Reed Inglee in 15th place (1:59.07).

On the final day of competition, freshman Shannon Duval secured the silver medal in the 200-yard breast event after posting a time of 2:17.40. On the men's side, John Nemeth turned in a fourth place performance with a time of 2:07.29 and Grant Chin added points for an eighth place finish with a time of 2:09.40

The final session started off with the 1650-yard freestyle event where the women placed three swimmers in the top ten. Sisters and freshman Dana (17:32.31) and Megan (17:48.18) Reis placed third and seventh respectively, while teammate Jamie Polek earned a fifth place finish with a time of 17:39.05. On the men's side, Brandon Hargraves placed 13th overall with a time of 16:43.75 followed in 14th place by Danny Evanilla with a time of 16:47.93.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Mallory Kessler scored points for a 13th place finish in a time of 2:10.33 while Mike Ellerson took 12th place for the men with a time of 1:54.93. Senior Matt Ainsworth also came in 14th place with a time of 1:55.11.

John Welsh turned in a solid performance with a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle event. On the women's side, Carleen Caldwell took 10th place with a time of 53.37.

In the final race of the four day championship, the women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Carleen Caldwell, Jaclyn Kubala, Polek and Duval swam to a sixth place finish with a time of 3:33.62. For the men the team of Welsh, Kevin Whelan, Owen Black and Connors-McBride placed third with a time of 3:04.98

The women posted a combined four day score of 356.5 and placed sixth in the competition. The men tallied 435 points for a fourth place finish.
