WASHINGTON, D.C. - Laura Dezolt improved to 4-3 as pitcher this season, earning two wins on the mound as well as at the plate after the Explorers won 3-1 and 8-6 over George Washington to open up conference play.
After the Explorers tied up the game against the Colonials in the first inning, it was DeZolt's two run homer that pushed the lead to 3-1. George Washington would also not get on base for the rest of the game, as she held the Colonials to just four hits, all prior to her two-run hit in the fourth inning.
She wasn't finished yet, however, scoring a three RBI homerun in the bottom of the first inning of the second game to go up 3-0 in the eventual 8-6 victory. So far this season DeZolt has struck out 40 batters and completed all but one of her games.
