Offense Squeaks By in 32-30 Victory Over Defense

PHILADELPHIA, PA - It was a win-win situation at McCarthy Stadium, as the La Salle University Explorers played their annual Spring Ball game today, ending with a comeback 32-30 Offensive victory.

The final score was not the only important aspect, however, as the game gave the team the chance to bring all their Spring training to the field and show off their hard work to an excited Explorer crowd.

After the Offense (Blue team) took an early lead in the first quarter - thanks largely to the efforts of runningback CJ Creighton - the Defense (White team) snapped into action, stopping the Blue team several times and managing to grab two interceptions before taking a late lead of their own in the third quarter.

Then, with time winding down and the White team leading with a score of 28-26, Creighton took a 4 and inches play up the gut but ran right into a wall of offensive and defensive lineman.  Instead of succumbing to the tackle, however, Creighton bounced to the outside and took the ball 25 yards into the endzone.  The extra point was then blocked by John Costello, who ran the ball the entire length of the field and scored a two-point defensive extra point.  That would be the last score of the day, and the game would end with a final score of 32-30.

Following the game, Coach Miller invited all of this year's recruits and their families, as well as current players' families onto the field and officially welcome them to the Explorer Family.  After the meeting everyone was then invited to a barbecue provided by the coaching staff, their family, and the La Salle Athletic Department.

The day proved a great success, highlighting both sides of the ball and all the improvement they've made in the last six months.  The game was an exciting preview of what is yet to come this fall, when the Explorers kick off their 2007 season against Ursinus at McCarthy Stadium on August 30th at 7:30PM.
