PHILADELPHIA - In voting conducted by area coaches, La Salle's Craig Muschko was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Pitcher of the Week after his performance last week.
Muschko tied a career-high with six innings pitched and won his first game in over two seasons. He allowed just three hits in six scoreless innings, while striking out four in La Salle's 6-1 victory over Massachusetts, Sunday. The junior, who was out last is 1-1 with a 2.36 ERA this season.
This is La Salle's third different starting pitcher to be honored by the Big 5, as Dan Waters and Kenny Elkind were also named Pitcher of the Week earlier this season.
Formed with the mission of increasing the exposure of college baseball in the area, Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball is comprised of the five Division I universities in Philadelphia that sponsor baseball. The organization, which was called the Philadelphia Diamond Five last season, is now under the umbrella of the Philadelphia Big Five office.
The Big 5 will announce a Player and Pitcher of the Week every Monday during the season. The second annual All-Big 5 baseball team will be announced at the conclusion of the season.
Penn's Kyle Armeny was named the Player of the Week for the first time after batting .600 (12-for-20) with a 1.200 slugging percentage - six extra base hits including three home runs - and nine RBI.
