Downingtown's Beck to Join Explorers Squad

May 24, 2007

La Salle head volleyball coach announced that Kayla Beck of Downingtown, Pennsylvania will join the Explorers for the 2007 season.

A four-year varsity starter under head coach Greg Ashman at Bishop Shanahan High School, Beck served as two captain in her junior and senior seasons.  A libero, Beck was selected as the Most Valuable Player in her final two seasons of competition.  In her senior season she was selected as the Co-MVP of the All-Area team.

Her defensive skills earned her several awards including being a two-time First Team All-State, All-Chestmont, All-Area and All-District honors.

On the club level, Beck has competed for Valley Forge and Synergy.  She competed in the Junior Olympics for the past six years.  She was a member of the East Coast Champions in Penn State the last two years.

Coach Stever on Beck:  "Kayla is someone that I believe will help our team when it comes to
passing. Competing at the Division I level, if a team can't pass the team can't score.  Both Brian (Assistant Coach Brian Sell) and I feel Kayla will bring skill and leadership to our program.
