Men Make Best As Guests at Kerr Cup

April 21, 2007

PHILADELPHIA - While La Salle University Women's Rowing participated in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, the Men were special guests of the Colonial Athletic Association's annual Kerr Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River.

As as invited guests of the regatta, the Men were unable to compete as a Varsity Eight, but instead broke up into three seperate Men's Fours. Also since La Salle was not directly involved with the CAA, none of their times were recorded and thus did not show up with in the final results.

However, in the Explorers first race of the day - the Freshmen Four - Justin Wiener, Joe Hughes, Matt Stoltz, Matt Wiedemer and Coxswain Lauren Corkery blew the competition away and placed first by a number of lengths with plenty of open water to spare. A special note: that day, they were not issued medals, but the following week they were awarded them.

The next race for La Salle was the Varsity 4 event and they had two boats racing in it. The "A" boat, comprised of James Keough, Adam Sutkus, Ryan Fair, Zack Coons and Coxswain Francesca Cupo, remained alongside the competition and in the last 100 meters stroked to a second-place finish just ahead of Old Dominion by a few seats.

The "B" boat, comprised of Brett Fair, Max Orenstein, Joe Scibetta, Bryan Schwartz and Coxswain Lauren Corkery, rowed their way into fifth place, finishing ahead of UNC-Wilmington.
