PHILADELPHIA, PA - With their final losses knocking them of the running for the championship games, the Softball team's season came to a disheartening end last weekend when they were overtaken by the defending conference champions, the UMass Minutemen.
Despite the losses, there is much hope for the Explorers as they now prepare for the 2008 season. "We really turned a corner this year." said Head Coach Joe DiPietro. "Even though we missed out on the A-10's, we improved a whole lot throughout the season, and I think it's a good indicator of things to come. Hopefully we can build off of that next season and take it through to the playoffs."
The girls lost 10 less games this season while winning six more - all conference victories. While much of the success of this season is due in part to a productive freshman class, no one will soon forget the seniors who have spent the last four years working to sculpt their team into the competive force in the A-10 that they are today.
"I feel the worst for the girls who won't be able to see the results from all their hard work," said Coach DiPietro, "but I hope the seniors know their contributions and dedication while they were here will carry over for years to come as we get better and better because of what they started."
