"The Palestra: Cathedral of Basketball", a feature-length documentary film, will be shown on ESPN Classic beginning July 5th. The film traces the evolution of college basketball through the rise of the most historic arena in the country.
Interviews with college basketball's most noted figures, fascinating never-before-seen historical footage, and the legendary voice-over talents of NFL Film's Harry Kalas, bring the legendary arena to life. Discover how this building became the stamping ground for the game that captured the heart of America and how its majestic influence would ultimately diminish as the very sport it had nurtured blossomed into lavish and high-priced popularity.
Featured in the documentary are Explorer alumni Bill Raftery, Doug Overton, and Fran Dunphy. La Salle called the Palestra home from 1957 until 1989, and still utilize the venue for selected home games.
