Former Explorer James (Jim) J. Flavin Passes Away

July 2, 2007

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University Athletic Department is saddened to announce the passing of former men's basketball player James (Jim) J. Flavin, age 65.  The 1965 La Salle graduate began his career at Philadelphia's West Catholic High School, where he garnered All-Catholic League honors twice and captained the team his senior year.  At 20th & Olney, Flavin averaged 22.3 points per game as a freshman and scored a season high 35 points against Penn in his first season.

Flavin, of Newtown Sq., PA, teamed with Explorer greats Bill Raftery, Bob McAteer and Frank Corace during his collegiate career.  He continued to be an integral part of the La Salle family after his playing days were over as he was a key figure in the formation and organization of the Bill Raftery Golf Outing, an Explorer tradition which benefits the men's basketball program currently in its fifth year.
