Lake Adds Two More Freshmen

July 23, 2007

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University Head Baseball Coach Mike Lake announced the addition of two out-of-state recruits, who will look to help the Explorers solidify their pitching staff for the 2008 season and beyond.

The incoming freshmen - both 6-0 right-handed pitchers - also bring with them strong batting numbers.

Kevin Fuqua, who is from Rockville, MD, finished his junior season with The Avalon School 10-3 on the mound, with 135 strikeouts and a 0.84 ERA and added a pair of saves. He also hit .347 with 18 RBI and struck out just six times in 85 plate appearances.

For that effort, he was named to the All-Gazette Second Team, and then in 2007 was named to the paper's First Team.

Caolan Ronan, who is from Chandler, AZ, helped Seton Catholic win the State Championship in 2006 after finishing the season 6-0 on the mound with a 2.60 ERA and a .485 batting average.

In 2007, he was 2-2 on the mound, but finished his career at the school with 10 wins - eighth all-time - and a 1.80 ERA. He batted .493 as a senior with an .825 slugging percentage which included 11 doubles and five triples. He knocked in 24 runs and scored 29.

In both 2006 and 2007, he was selected All-Region 3A South Second Team and last season was selected to the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association South All-Star Team.

In all, Lake has brought in 12 new faces to join the Explorers squad for the 2008 season.
