PHILADELPHIA - With the newest crop of recruits, Head Baseball Coach Mike Lake will now welcome 12 total players to the 2008 roster and will look to help replace those lost to graduation (5) and the Major League draft (3).
Shane Frangiosa comes to 20th and Olney from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in Plymouth Meeting, PA. The 5'11, 165-pound infielder batter almost .500 during his senior season (.480). He was a four-year varsity starter, named First Team All-League the last two years, was a three-year member of the Carpenter Cup, and was the 2007 Times Herald Player of the Year.
Rick Gehman, out of Royersford, PA, started the last two seasons for Spring-Ford High School at shortstop and second base. The 5'7, 160-pounder hit .351 and had an on-base percentage of .515 his junior year and .321/.445 his senior season. After each, he was named Pioneer Athletic All-Conference and named to the Times Herald and Pottstown Mercury All-Area.
Sean Kennedy, a 6-4, 200-pound pitcher out of Sacred Heart High School in Vineland, NJ, had a career record of 9-2 in high school, including a 4-0 mark with one save as a senior and posting a 1.80 ERA. In American Legion play, he was honored as the Pitcher of the Year in the Cape Atlantic League after finishing 10-0.
Sean Saverio, a 5-10, 190-pound catcher, batted .498 during his senior year with 29 RBI for La Salle College High School. The Ambler, PA native was a three-year varsity starter, was named First Team All-Catholic twice, All-City twice, All-Southeast PA twice, and was the team MVP in 2007. He was also a three-time Carpenter Cup team member.
Chris Umstead, a 5-11, 165-pound outfielder/infield from Penn Ridge High School, was an All-Suburban Conference Member and an American Legion All-Star.
Mike Canfarotta, a 5-10, 160-pound outfielder from St. Francis Prep, an All-League Player from Bayside, NY, will also join the Explorers in the upcoming season.
