Explorer Soccer a Tradition in Coleman Family

Aug. 16, 2007

Head men's soccer coach Pat Farrell is proud to announce that Kevin Coleman (La Salle '05) has been named graduate assistant for the Explorers.

Coleman has big shoes to fill as father Jim Coleman resigned last season after 20 years on the sidelines for the Explorers. Both Coleman's served as captains during their Explorer careers-making them the only father-son combination to be named captains at La Salle.

A longtime member of the La Salle community, Jim Coleman played soccer at La Salle from 1974-'78, and served as captain in his final season. As a player, he earned All-Region and All-Conference recognition after leading the team in points and assists during his senior season.

Kevin Coleman played on the men's squad from 2001-2005, serving as captain in 2004. He was named to the NSCAA All-American Third Team in 2004-05 as he lead the team in points (14 total), while taking his team to the Atlantic 10 tournament for the first time in seven years. Following the 2004 season Coleman was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and earned a spot on the Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star team. He was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team following an impressive freshman campaign and also earned All-Conference Second Team honors in 2003. His professional experience includes time with Virginia Beach of the USL 1 League. Coleman's previous coaching experience includes one season as an assistant coach at Penncrest High School. He is currently working on a Master's degree in education from La Salle.

The Explorers kick off the 2007 season on Friday, August 31st as they take on St. Peter's College in the Lafayette Tournament at 4:00 PM.
