McMahon, Ortiz, Schaeffer Named Men's Soccer Captains

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle University soccer team has announced that seniors Walter McMahon (Norristown, PA), Jeremy Ortiz (Mount Laurel, NJ) and Geoff Schaeffer (Blackwood, NJ) have been named captains for the 2007-08 season. All three have competed for the blue and gold for three years under head coach Pat Farrell.

McMahon, a defender, was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) `Academic All-Region Scholar' in 2006. He started in 16 games and dished out one assist in a 2-0 win over UMBC in 2006. He is majoring in finance.

Ortiz, a midfielder/forward, has been a team leader throughout his La Salle career, scoring a team-high six goals in each of the past two seasons. He has been named to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference team heading into 2007, and was selected to the A-10 All-Conference First Team, Philadelphia Soccer 7 All-Star Team, NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic First Team, and the Drexel Invitational All Tournament First Team in 2006. He is majoring in communication.

Schaeffer, a midfielder/defender, works just as hard on the field as off. He was named a NSCAA `Academic All-Region Scholar' in 2006, and he started in all 18 games the Explorers competed in. He is majoring in accounting.

The Explorers open the season on Friday, August 31st as they compete in the Lafayette Tournament at 4:00 p.m. to take on St. Peter's College.
