Explorers Shut Out Robert Morris, 4-0

Sept. 10, 2007

Box Score

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA - Colleen Lechner exploded for three second-half goals to boost the La Salle field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Robert Morris on Sunday.

Goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen stopped six shots in picking up the shutout for the Explorers, who improved their record to 4-3.

Whitney Madron got La Salle on the board 17 minutes into the contest, scoring off of a penalty corner. Beth Carey and Haley Froshour assisted on the goal, which was Madron's first of the season.

The score would remain 1-0 until Lechner took a pass from Kelly Dougherty to lift the Explorers to a two-goal advantage.

Less than a minute later, Lechner would score an unassisted goal to make it 3-0 in favor of La Salle.

With a little under 14 minutes remaining, her third score of the day would make the score 4-0 and put the game out of reach for Robert Morris.

Coming off a lackluster performance in a 5-0 loss to Lock Haven, the Explorers bounced back nicely in Sunday's win. After being outshot 27-2 on Saturday, La Salle put up 19 shots to the Colonial's six in the victory.

The Explorers continue their road swing on Thursday night when they travel to Lewisburg, PA to meet Bucknell. Game time is at 6 p.m.
