DETROIT, MI - The defending WNBA Champion Detroit Shock have taken a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series with the Phoenix Mercury in the Finals of the 2007 Finals. Two of the coaches with La Salle ties are matched up against each other in this title bout.

Former La Salle University Women's Basketball player and assistant coach Cheryl Reeve (1988) is an assistant to the Detroit's Bill Laimbeer and was with the team last year when the Shock took the title.

On the other side of the court is Phoenix, who is led by Paul Westhead. He adds La Salle Men's Basketball Head Coach (1970-79) among the other distinguishable positions he has held, which includes head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers during their title run in 1980.
