Lawrenceville, NJ - Colleen Lechner deflected a shot after a corner at the 37:13 mark of the first half to put the La Salle University Explorers in the lead but host Rider would tie it up and eventually win in penalty strokes, 2-1, on Friday afternoon.
The goal was a team-high fifth for Lechner.
The Broncs' Amanda Barratta, who put four shots in La Salle keeper Emma Ruth's direction, connected with the equalizer 11 minutes and 25 seconds into the second half.
After finishing regulation tied at 1-1 the teams played two scoreless 15 minute overtime periods before settling the score on penalty strokes.
Rider's Julie Vaccarelli and the Explorers' Gabrielle Nolt each had their first attempts turned away before the Broncs' Virginia Egusquiza beat Ruth.
La Salle's Lindsay Fry evened things up with a successful stroke that got by Lyndsie Johnson.
Caitlin Mebs gave Rider the advantage again with the winner before Jess Menge was stopped by Johnson in her attempt to extend the game.
The loss snapped a three game winning streak for the Explorers who are now 5-7 but have given up just one regulation gaol in four games.
The Explorers remain on the road with a Sunday afternoon match-up at nationally ranked Amercian.
