Philadelphia, PA – After taking a break from conference action for one night, the La Salle volleyball team cruised to victory over the Seahawks of Wagner at home on Tuesday night, 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 15-13). It was a back and forth match as both teams took turns winning sets, but the Explorers capitalized in the fifth and final set to defeat Wagner.
Almost every Explorer played a significant role in the victory on Tuesday night as four players reached double figures in digs and three players reached double figures in kills.
Junior Rachel Stemper led all participants in kills with a match-high 18 while also attributing 17 digs, two assisted blocks, two assists and one service ace. Senior Jackie Kushman tallied 13 kills including racking up a match-high 28 digs. Senior Christa Dominick recorded a team-high .406 hitting percentage (16-3-32) and four assisted blocks which also marked a team-high.
Freshman Kourtney Clark led with a match-high 39 assists and senior Tammi Jones added 18 digs. Junior Danielle DiMarco was the final Explorer to reach double-digit digs with 13 while also contributing three assists, two assisted blocks and a solo block.
Despite the loss, Wagner finished the match with three players who each recorded a double-double. Freshman Micaela McDonald totaled a team-high 14 kills and 18 digs, freshman Stephanie Robinett achieved 10 kills and a team-high 19 digs and junior Alex Klein was the final Seahawk to record double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs.
Overall, La Salle tallied 95 digs, 59 kills, 53 assists and eight service aces.
After completing a two-game road trip heading into the Wagner match, the Explorers (5-15, 1-4) embark on another two-game road swing beginning with a visit to Xavier on Friday, October 10. The Explorers remain in the state of Ohio for the weekend, but travel to Dayton on Saturday before returning home for the final two home matches of the season.
